Why Study IGCSE Further Pure Mathematics?

IGCSE Further Pure Mathematics is designed for students who have a strong aptitude and interest in mathematics and wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding beyond the standard IGCSE Mathematics curriculum. It offers an advanced exploration of mathematical concepts, providing a solid foundation for further studies in mathematics and related fields. It is much more complex and abstract compared to the standard IGCSE Mathematics. IGCSE Further Pure Mathematics is a prerequisite for students who wish to study Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL in Year 12. Students in 9Math1 will take this course as part of their accelerated pathway. Other students can choose it as an Option.

This course is designed to extend students’ knowledge by broadening and deepening their mathematical skills. Students will develop their ability to use numerical skills in both a purely mathematical way and in real-life situations. They will learn to use algebra and calculus to set up and solve problems, as well as develop competence and confidence when manipulating mathematical expressions. They will also learn to use vectors and rates of change to model situations.
