Senior School Production
The Performing Arts team is excited to welcome students back and to announce the launch of this year’s Senior School production.
The production will take place on Friday, 15th December (Term 1). This year, we are staging a vibrant jukebox musical featuring famous songs that everyone will know and love, with a fun twist on classic fairytales. It will be full of humour, action and well-known characters – but with unexpected plot turns where nothing is quite as it seems!
Key Information:
- Rehearsals: Mondays and Tuesdays after school (attendance on both days is required). Since the production is only taking place in Term 1 this year, students will still have the chance to take part in other After School Activities options in Terms 2 and 3.
- Auditions:
- Initial auditions will be held on Monday, 8th September, after school. Students will need to arrange alternative transport home.
- Please note: auditioning does not guarantee a role in the performance. Auditions are for entry and to assess suitability.
- Audition Songs: Students will be asked to prepare one of the following songs:
- Count on Me (Bruno Mars)
- Someone Like You (Adele)
- Riptide (Vance Joy)
- Let It Be (The Beatles)
- Count on Me (Bruno Mars)
- Initial auditions will be held on Monday, 8th September, after school. Students will need to arrange alternative transport home.
- Sign-Up: Students interested in auditioning must either complete the Google Form that was shared with all students last week, or contact a member of the Performing Arts team (Mr Sylvia, Ms Ahmed, or Mr Hernandez).
- A Google Classroom will also be created where the short audition pieces (a song and a short acting excerpt) will be shared. Please note: Auditions will be closed, with performances in front of teachers only.
We are thrilled to be starting this exciting project with our students and look forward to sharing another fantastic production with you in December.
Student Summer Experience - Chloe, Year 11
What’s not taught in scrubs: my experience as a medical volunteer in Sri Lanka
"I came to Sri Lanka to test myself. To see if I could do medicine. I’d read every article, watched every interview and gone over my biology book thousands of times, but what I learnt was not something that could be not only taught, or even fully understood without living it.
They don’t teach you how to hold back tears when a child is crying without breath. Or to sit with your own powerlessness as you speak to a patient's relative knowing you can do nothing. Or how hard it is to choose to re-enter a room where someone’s life is at stake.
These are lessons that stayed with me. Quiet. Fleeting. Yet unforgettable.
My experience began with watching open brain surgery (a decompressive craniectomy if you will), staring at the monitor, tools dug, singed and scraped mining an unorthodox kind of gold. I was encapsulated. Throughout the next two weeks we watched a brain fluid extraction, visited neurosurgery patients, witnessed a gangrenous toe removal under no anaesthesia, smelt the cleaning of an upper leg amputation at the vascular clinic, conducted manual blood sugar tests on elderly patients and interacted with the most compassionate people I have ever met. My internship was a whirlwind of learning, passion and raw human connection.
I'll miss you Sri Lanka, but I’ll be back."

Key Stage 1 Assembly
This week, our KS1 children enjoyed a special welcome assembly to kick off the new school year. The focus was on introducing the fantastic KS1 team, so the pupils could put friendly faces to the names of the adults who will be supporting them. We also took time to show the pupils where they can go if they need help, feel unsure, or just want to talk. It was a lovely way to build confidence, foster a sense of community, and remind every child that they are safe, supported and valued at school.

A Successful Series of Curriculum Evenings for Years 1 to 6
This week, the Junior School proudly hosted a series of Curriculum Evenings for parents of pupils in Years 1 to 6. These evenings were a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with their child’s learning journey and get a deeper insight into the exciting curriculum at BISC.
Parents were warmly welcomed by Principal Mr Hansen and Head of Junior School, Ms Kay Faraz, before heading to classrooms to meet their child’s class teacher. Each session included a presentation outlining key aspects of the year group curriculum, rules and routines, followed by a short activity.
The evening concluded back in the theatre, where parents enjoyed an interactive quiz led by Mrs Bukhari. The lively atmosphere, happy faces and enthusiastic participation reflected the strong partnership between home and school that makes our community so special.
Thank you to all parents for attending and to our dedicated staff for making these evenings both informative and enjoyable.
A Student Achievement
Zidane (2L) did a fantastic job at his gymnastic competition by the Egyptian Gymnastics Federation, where he won a gold medal for his participation.

Foundation Stage News
Foundation Stage 1
The children have had an extremely successful week, and it is noteworthy how rapidly they have settled. After just seven days at school, they have adapted to the new surroundings and are becoming familiar with all the adults who work with them each day. This week, they have met their Arabic teachers, and their Arabic lessons will begin next week. As you will see from the photographs, they have thoroughly enjoyed their first PE lessons. They have even started the ‘Daily Mile' and are proving to be very fit and active. This is all happening exceptionally early and is a precursor to a very successful year.

Foundation Stage 2
It has been pleasing to see the FS2 children greeting each other with enthusiasm each morning and playing so happily together. This week, they have particularly enjoyed painting self-portraits and talking about their families and the special people in their lives.
