The BISC Newsletter - 28th August 2025

A Message from the Principal

What a wonderful start we have had to the new academic year. The first week has been filled with energy, excitement, and fresh beginnings for our students. Many thanks to our maintenance and admin teams, who have worked tirelessly to get the campus ready and looking fantastic. Our new teaching staff have settled in well.

Back to Lessons and Routines

Our classrooms are already buzzing with learning. Teachers and students have quickly settled into routines, and it has been heartening to see the focus and enthusiasm.

New Friends and New Teachers

For many of our pupils, this week brought the chance to meet new teachers and form new friendships. Watching students support each other, share experiences, and welcome those who are new to BISC has been a reminder of the strong sense of community that defines our school.

Clean Starts for All

A new year always brings the opportunity for a fresh start. Whether it is a new subject, a new challenge, or simply a renewed commitment to doing their best, every student has been encouraged to embrace this year as a clean slate, one full of possibilities.

Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence

This year is particularly special as we mark BISC’s 50th anniversary. For five decades, our school has stood as a beacon of excellence in Egypt, shaping young minds and preparing future leaders. Throughout the year, we will be celebrating this milestone together with our students, families, alumni and wider community.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we begin this exciting year together. We look forward to working in partnership with you to make 2025-26 a memorable year of achievement, growth and celebration.

Senior School News

A Fantastic Start to the New Academic Year!

What a wonderful first week back we have had! It has been a pleasure to see all our students return with such enthusiasm and energy, and we have truly enjoyed welcoming the new members of our school community. The corridors have been filled with chatter, laughter, and the sounds of exciting lessons. We have been so impressed with how well everyone has settled into the rhythm of school.

The week was marked by our celebration assemblies, where we took time to recognise and applaud the outstanding achievements of our students from the previous academic year. A huge congratulations to all the students who won awards for their hard work and dedication. It was a fantastic way to start the year and inspire everyone for the months ahead.

We also held our first parents' meeting for our Sixth Form students, a significant event to welcome them to this new stage of their education. It was a great opportunity to introduce the students and their families to the opportunities that lie ahead and to celebrate their incredible GCSE success. It was truly a moment of pride for us all.

This week also saw the first of our A-Level classes, and the new addition to the school curriculum is proving to be a huge success. The students are already demonstrating a high level of engagement and are embracing the challenges of their new subjects. It is incredibly exciting to see them so passionate about their learning, and we look forward to seeing their progress.

Thank you to all our students, staff and parents for making this such a positive and memorable start to the year. We wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Junior School News

A Great Start to A New Academic Year

We are delighted to share what a wonderful start it has been to the new academic year in Junior School. From the very first day, our classrooms have been filled with energy, enthusiasm and a genuine love of learning. The pupils have settled quickly into routines, embraced new challenges, and are already showing great curiosity and collaboration.

It has also been a joy to see friendships forming and our school community coming together with such positivity. Central to this great start has been our focus on our three core rules -  Ready, Respectful, and Safe - which guide our learning and play each day.

With this strong foundation, we look forward to an exciting year ahead, filled with opportunities for growth, achievement and memorable experiences.

Induction Morning for New Families

This week, we were delighted to welcome our new families to the Junior School for our Induction Morning. It was a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to meet their teachers, explore the classrooms, and get to know the routines that will help make the transition into school life smooth and happy.

The morning was filled with excitement, smiles and plenty of questions as families connected with staff and one another. We are thrilled to have our new pupils join the BISC community and look forward to an inspiring year of learning and growth together.

Fresh&Co - Brand New Cateen Experience at BISC

We are thrilled to launch our brand-new canteen experience with Fresh&Co, and it has already been a fantastic success. The pupils are really enjoying the wide variety of meals on offer each day, with options that are not only tasty but also healthy and well-balanced. From fresh salads and nourishing hot meals to lighter snacks and fun weekly treats, there is something to suit every appetite. It has been wonderful to see the pupils excited about trying new foods and developing healthy eating habits, while also enjoying the social side of dining together.

As with any new system, there are a few logistical details we are still fine-tuning, and we are very grateful for your patience and support as we smooth these out. We are confident that with Fresh&Co, lunchtime will continue to be a highlight of the school day - providing our students with the energy they need to learn, play and thrive.

    Learning Beyond the Classroom

We are pleased to announce that we will soon be launching a new programme, offering a range of exciting activities and projects that bring pupils together across their year group. This initiative is designed to extend learning beyond the classroom by giving pupils opportunities to think critically, solve problems in creative ways and apply their knowledge in new contexts. At the same time, it will enable pupils to collaborate with peers beyond their own class, helping them to form new friendships, strengthen teamwork, and develop important social and communication skills. Working in varied groups encourages adaptability, resilience and confidence, while also building a stronger sense of community within each year group.

We are confident this initiative will both enrich academic learning and nurture the supportive, connected environment that makes BISC so special. Further details will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

Maths Groupings in Years 4, 5 and 6

We are delighted to share an exciting new initiative in Years 4, 5 and 6: Maths Groupings. From Week 3 (starting Sunday 7th September), pupils will be learning in groups that are carefully designed to challenge them at the right level, and ensure their individual needs are met.

This approach is based on ongoing and past assessments and teacher insight, allowing us to stretch pupils who are ready for greater depth while providing additional support where needed.

Beyond the academic benefits, Maths Groupings will also bring pupils from across each year group together, helping them to broaden their friendships, work with a wider range of peers, and develop important collaborative skills.

To ensure that every pupil continues to progress, these groupings will be reviewed regularly, with pupils moving as needed to best support their learning. We are confident this initiative will not only enhance learning but also foster a stronger sense of community across the year groups.

Applications Invited for Year 6 Head Boy, Head Girl and Prefect Positions

We are excited to launch the selection process for this year’s Head Boy, Head Girl, and Prefects. These important roles give pupils the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work closely with the Junior Leadership Team, contribute to planning school events, and represent the Junior School on key committees such as the Anti-Bullying Committee and the Pupil Leadership Conference.

Year 6 pupils who wish to apply should send an email application to Mrs Bukhari and Ms Faraz, outlining the attributes that make them suitable for the role and what they can offer to the school community.

Deadline: Saturday 6th September. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to a formal interview.

We are looking for pupils with outstanding behaviour, excellent punctuality and attendance, and the ability to act as exemplary role models.

    Foundation Stage News

    Foundation Stage 1

Thank you very much to the FS1 parents, who have contributed to a successful start to the year. The children are beginning to settle and enjoy their new environment, getting to know their teachers and making new friends. This settling in process will continue for the next few weeks while the teachers undertake a baseline assessment to ensure that your child’s curriculum needs will be met.

The information meeting was very well attended and there was a lively question and answer session; if anyone needs any further information, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Foundation Stage 2

The FS2 children have made an excellent start to the school year and have quickly adapted to their new routines. They have also had the opportunity to meet their specialist teachers in Arabic, Music and PE.

It was a pleasure to welcome many parents to today's information meeting. Parents can access the information slides through their child's Google Classroom. Next week, FS2 will continue with the topic of 'Ourselves,' focusing on what makes each of us special and unique.
