The BISC Newsletter 15th May 2025
Message from the Chairman

BISC - fast approaching 50 years
... and a second post-16, A-level programme
Dear Parents,
Next year, BISC will cross the important threshold of providing International British Educational Excellence for 50 years.
As we cross that milestone, BISC will introduce its second, post-16 qualification, offering A-levels alongside the IB Diploma, starting in August 2025.
This expansion of our academic offerings represents an important progression for BISC. It enriches the educational pathways we provide, and allows us to better cater to the diverse needs of all of our students.
I want to assure all our Parents that a rigorous and extended effort has been ongoing for months now to provide excellence in delivery of our new A-level programme. And for that, I would like to recognise the work of our new Principal Mr Chris Hansen, Ms Sarah Fuschillo and the Senior School Leadership Team, the subjects' department heads, the School’s General Manager and its HR Director.
I am confident that the introduction of A-levels will further strengthen BISC’s reputation for academic excellence. It will provide our students with greater choice, and a second trajectory to reach their academic objectives.
Needless to say, the school will always aim to bring its world-class IB programme to even greater heights.
The Senior School Leadership Team and staff will be communicating with all Parents and students the different aspects and details of our new A-level programme.
.... Responding to parental concerns regarding Junior School Shuffling
In response to parental concerns, the Junior School Leadership Team, in close consultation with the Board, have decided to limit, in a very substantial way, the shuffling that will take place in the Junior School. For the very limited cases where shuffling is undertaken, it will only be where there is a direct value added to the students, and always in close consultation with the Parents.
I seize this opportunity to extend to all Parents my best regards.

Year 12 Trip
Our Year 12 students recently returned from an amazing trip to France, where they forged lasting memories as a team - a team that has been together since Foundation Stage 1! The students represented the school very well, and we are extremely proud of their incredible efforts.
The trip was packed with adventure, including paragliding, kayaking and rock climbing, as well as challenging hikes and camping in the beautiful French Alps.
We are so happy to have them back at school, and we wish them all the best as they now begin to prepare for their end of year examinations.

They even created and performed live sound effects, adding a wonderfully immersive touch to the performance. STEAM Week
Excitingly, Junior School participated in their annual STEAM Week, where we amalgamated the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. This year, our theme was Sports Science, which lent itself beautifully to pupils creating a variety of work incorporating this topic. Across the Junior School, pupils enjoyed drawing symmetrical sporting logos for Mathematics, watching ‘Mohanad Science’ as well as creating silhouettes depicting a variety of sports during Art.
Just outside the Junior School Office, you can peruse and admire all the hard work that the pupils created from yet another splendid STEAM Week.
We also held a STEAM week poster competition. KS1 pupils created some wonderful posters about how to stay healthy. Congratulations to Hussein G in 2L and Layan M in 1E for their winning posters.

We were delighted to welcome parents and pupils to our recent Reading Celebration, a joyful event recognising reading achievement and effort across the year. It was wonderful seeing so many families joining us to share their children’s reading successes. From engaging book displays to cosy reading corners and delicious treats, the morning was filled with a genuine love of reading. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make it a memorable celebration of books, stories, and reading progress.

Parent Workshop - Supporting Your Child's Development
We are pleased to announce an upcoming Parent Information Session focused on Supporting Your Child's Development, scheduled for Monday 19th May, at 13:30, in the 'Black Box' drama room.
This session is a follow-up to our well-received Term 1 information session and will offer a more interactive format. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with case studies and discussions, alongside the sharing of practical strategies and knowledge related to child development. This will allow for the exploration of common issues raised by parents and provide a forum for questions.
The session will be facilitated by Mrs Bukhari, Deputy Head Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Junior School, and our Counsellors, Ms Grijalva and Mr Ahmed. Their combined expertise will offer valuable insights and practical tools to support parents in understanding and effectively nurturing their children's development both within and beyond the school environment. The session will include reviewing case studies and in-depth discussions aimed at highlighting and addressing issues faced by both children and parents.
If you wish to attend, please complete the registration form provided below. We look forward to welcoming you. Confirmation of Attendance Form
