Despite the short week, BISC pupils have been busy. Year 4 showed talent and resilience in an exciting Sports Day and Year 8 visited the Museum of Islamic Art to further their knowledge and understanding of Islamic history. I would like to add my own congratulations to our students, not only for their excellent achievements but for their hard work, effort, commitment to tasks and, of course, excellent conduct and engagement with all the opportunities provided at BISC.
Next week promises to be even better as Year 4 pupils head to Alexandria and Senior School students embark on a ‘drop down’ PSHE day to explore important and relevant topics such as social media and conflict resolution.
IB Class 2024 Graduation
We are all looking forward to celebrating the graduating Class of 2024. The graduation date is Friday 7th June. Further details of the event will be shared with Year 13 parents in due course.
PSHE Day: Expect Respect
On Sunday 12th May, the entire Senior School will participate in a PSHE day. The theme of the day is 'Expect Respect'. Students will be learning about dealing with conflict, the impact of social media, and how to handle media pressures. In addition, students will also participate in House events to build relationships and foster a sense of community between year groups. Students should wear their House shirts to School on this day.
Student Achievements
Ynes in Year 12 competed in the Visionary Minds Challenge Competition hosted by Immerse Education. She submitted an essay entitled 'Digitalisation in Education', discussing the recent shift in digital teaching and how its flexibility may benefit neurodivergent students or students with barriers preventing them from accessing more traditional teaching methods. Immerse Education awarded Ynes a 35% scholarship to one of the Immersive University Programmes held globally in unison with elite universities and world industry leaders.
Alieldin in Year 10 represented Egypt at the recent All Africa Under 18s golf tournament. Alieldin was the youngest player at the tournament and achieved very good results. He has also been selected to represent Egypt in an Under 15s tournament in Jordan this week. Good luck!
Secret Students
To raise the profile of positives in the School, we have been encouraging students to take more responsibility for their own attitude and approach to learning so that we improve the culture by striving for a positive learning environment in our classrooms and around the School. Choosing a Secret Student takes into account: attendance, where students are automatically awarded 5 points for being in school each day; punctuality, where students automatically receive 1 point for each lesson they arrive on time to; and behaviour, where students receive 1 point for each positive they are awarded with.
The Secret Student winners this week are:
7KM: Karma I - 52 Points
8JC: Loulwa E - 46 Points
9NGA: Nour S - 48 Points
10AR: Alieldin S - 50 Points

Foundation Stage One
Foundation Stage 1 children have been investigating light; switching the light cubes on and off and discovering how the colour changed by turning the cubes from side to side. They then decided to build a “City of Lights” for the mini beasts they discovered.
Swimming lessons continue with a splash! You will see from the photos below just how much fun the Foundation Stage 1 children have in the pool. Some of them were brave enough to try the big pool!
Foundation Stage Two
The children in Foundation Stage 2 continued to delight in watching their beans and plants grow. They have also learnt how to care for, draw and label parts of a plant.
Next week, we will discuss the importance of teamwork as we read the story of 'The Enormous Turnip'.
Keeping our students safe online is a priority at BISC. We are happy to share advice from the National Online Safety, to enable parents to understand the pros and cons of various social media, games and digital trends.
This week, we are sharing advice about staying safe with smartphones.
