British Embassy Carol Service
A wonderful and confident performance by the BISC Choir took place this week at the British Embassy’s Carol Service. BISC pupils made such a positive impression, as they met with the Ambassador, Mr Gareth Bayley, OBE. They represented our School at this year’s service, which focused on the message of peace, demonstrating musical talent, energy and flair. A really impressive performance; congratulations to the BISC Choir.
BISC Uniform - Next Phase
Thank you to everyone for their support in embedding the new uniform this term. We have made significant progress in this area and students are looking very smart, professional and comfortable in their new uniform. As a reminder, students must wear their ties every day please.
In our next phase of improving standards, all students will be expected to wear the BISC blazer to School, every day, from Monday 8th January 2024. Please can all parents ensure that students have this blazer ready for the new term.
As a reminder, the full BISC uniform, which is shared in the Parent Handbook, can be found below. In addition to the BISC jumper and blazer, students can also wear the gilet to keep warm. Your support is greatly appreciated.
I am also pleased to announce that as part of our commitment to raising standards, all BISC students will be gifted with a parka jacket (see below) once they purchase a BISC blazer. Further details of distribution will be issued next week.

Trip to the Arab League Headquarters in Tahrir
On Wednesday 6th December, students participating in the Model Arab League at BISC visited the headquarters of the Arab League in Tahrir.
Students toured the Main Hall, the Library/Archives of the Arab League and met with senior diplomats of the Arab League, including Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Hossam Zaki. They also had a chance to pose questions to Arab League staff and diplomats.
As per the feedback the School received from Arab League staff after the visit, our students displayed excellent behaviour and asked very intelligent questions which made a senior Arab League diplomat wonder whether the other BISC students are as engaged as the students on the trip. Thanks to all the students who contributed to such feedback. More photos here.
Year 7 Science
Students were out in the Nature Garden this week, learning about frictional forces as part of their Science curriculum. They explored various surfaces and measured the amount of force using a newton meter. More photos here.
Year 8 Geography Fieldwork
This week, our Year 8 students have been carrying out fieldwork around the BISC campus to investigate microclimates, as part of their Weather and Climates unit. They initially made some predictions as to how temperature and wind speed at different locations around the school might vary as a result of factors like proximity to buildings and the presence of vegetation. We then went outside to collect the data using thermometers and anemometers, and will complete the investigation process in our next lesson by analysing the data and making some conclusions. More photos here.
You Go Girl Activities
On Saturday 9th December, the You Go Girl team invited Year 6, 7 and 8 students to participate in the Girls Get Strong event. During the day, there was a range of activities available to develop collaboration between Junior School and Senior School students and help them explore a range of sports. All students embodied the BISC values throughout the day, demonstrating resilience and a caring attitude. We look forward to the next You Go Girl event. More photos here.
Year 11 Parent Workshop
Thanks to all the parents who joined us for a Year 11 Student and Parent Workshop, where exam preparation and processes were discussed.
Year 12 Theory of Knowledge
Year 12 ToK students are currently learning about the production and sharing of knowledge within the Arts. As part of this, students have been investigating the criteria surrounding what constitutes ‘good art’ and who has the authority to determine this. This has led to questions regarding the role of ethics in the Arts, including issues of censorship. Students have conducted independent research into controversial artworks and presented their findings to the class, which has been a wonderful stimulus for some very productive discussions. It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm of students to consider such interesting and diverse perspectives on issues that directly impact everyday life for them. More photos here.
Year 12 Celebration Assembly
This week we celebrated the academic success of our IB students in Year 12. It was such a pleasure to see so many students awarded for their outstanding achievements this term. In our future celebration assemblies, we will be awarding both academic and endeavour awards to acknowledge those students who have made significant progress. We are immensely proud of the year group and cannot wait to see how they flourish next term. All photos here.
IB Drama Performance
The Year 13 students have been working very hard as an ensemble on a collaborative project for the last 8 weeks, culminating in a solid performance with a clear intention and purpose. This performance is their final assessment, which will go to the IB as an external assessment. They have all taken roles and responsibilities as creators, designers, directors and performers. Our U16 boys' and girls' football teams took home top honours at the recent CISSA tournament, with the boys claiming a well-deserved first place and the girls placing a strong second!

Under 19 Basketball
Our U19 basketball teams competed fiercely at the recent CISSA tournament, with the boys finishing in a respectable third place and the girls securing a well-earned second place.
Playing an away fixture at AIS, both teams showcased their technical skills and athleticism throughout the competition. The boys displayed impressive teamwork and determination to secure third place, while the girls fought valiantly to take home the runners-up spot.
We commend our U19 basketball players for their dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
House Matches Next Week
During the last week of term, there will be House matches taking place during PE lessons. Students must come prepared and wear their House shirts on the days when they have PE lessons, along with their School shorts, tracksuit bottoms, or leggings.
These matches provide an opportunity for students to represent their respective Houses in the sports they have been participating in this term. Therefore, they should also bring any necessary specialist equipment, such as football boots, shin guards or swimming kits.
We are excited to see all the students proudly representing and competing for their Houses.
Secret Students
In order to raise the profile of positives in our school, we introduced a scheme at the start of this half term to encourage students to take more responsibility for their own attitude and approach to learning and improve the culture by striving for a positive learning environment in our classrooms and around the School.
