Anti-Bullying Poster Winners
During Anti-Bullying Week, we focused on the differences between ‘banter’ and ‘bullying’ as well as looking at the impact of cyberbullying and the importance of being an upstander. This week we have been reflecting on the work produced by students during this week.
Key Stage 3 students were challenged to create posters with the purpose of raising awareness of the issues surrounding bullying. We have selected the best individual posters to receive a prize. Photos here
We would also like to give an honorary mention to 7KM who worked collaboratively to create this wonderful poster. Ms. Marei is very proud of your efforts and teamwork to create this. Well done!
Komodo Wellbeing
At BISC, we have rolled out the use of Komodo Wellbeing to help monitor and support the emotional and physical wellbeing of our students. By using Komodo Wellbeing, we are giving students a voice when they need it most and to empower our staff so they can offer the support they need. Komodo Wellbeing has helped us identify an issue that is affecting students across all year groups in the Senior School and that is sleep.
38% of our KS3 and KS4 cohort have reported that they are getting 5 hours, or less, of sleep per night. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s expert panel, an adolescent (12-18 years) should aim to get 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Sleep is one of the single most powerful processes to support our physical and mental health and to improve our productivity. As we sleep our muscles repair and our immune system strengthens. These functions are all vital to support the wellbeing of our students but also their academic progress because when we sleep our brains actively consolidate memories and sharpen cognitive function.
If you would like further advice and tips about how to improve sleep habits you can find excellent resources by Teen Sleep Hub here: Parent Advice and Teen Advice.

Further reflections on the lecture of “Omar Taher”, written by Omar EK in Year 12
On November 6th, I spent an hour of my school day listening to a talk by the great writer Omar Taher. He talked about his book 'Egypt’s Early Industrialists’. He said that his motivation when writing the book was a personal curiosity in the lives of these early industrial champions in Egypt and their personal stories. He has a good sense of humour. In fact, he has also written the script of 4 movies, some of which are comedies.
I was struck by the story of Tommy Christo (founder of The Corona Chocolate Company), especially his persistence and determination when facing challenges. Another story was how the residents of Suez managed to survive a siege that lasted for 101 days and the different techniques they used to save food and fuel. He also talked about “Chipsy” and how it contributed to an industry whose value today exceeds 25 billion Egyptian pounds.
The event encouraged me to search for videos by Omar Taher online and read additional chapters of his book. I hope that Omar Taher pays another visit to BISC to talk about the movie scripts he writes.

Additionally, they visited the amazing Serapeum, which is another set of underground tombs belonging to the sacred Apis bulls. All in all, a great time was had and the children represented the school brilliantly. More photos here.

This week, FS1 pupils started exploring various modes of transportation. They delved into the world of travel by creating their own aeroplanes and trains.
The upcoming week promises even more excitement as our young learners will venture into crafting hot air balloons, and we will conduct a thrilling experiment. To participate in this upcoming adventure, pupils are encouraged to bring a soft toy to School on Tuesday 28th November. More photos here.
Foundation Stage Two
As part of our Communities topic, the pupils are learning about the different people who help us within the community, both in everyday life and in an emergency. We enjoyed discussing different occupations and the children have been considering what they want to be when they grow up.
The children are making good progress in reading. They are consolidating their knowledge of Phase 2 sounds and developing their blending skills to support fluency in reading. The children are attempting to form letters correctly and write simple words. More photos here.
Keeping our students safe online is a priority at BISC. We are happy to share advice from the Safeguarding Training Centre, to enable parents to understand the pros and cons of various social media, games and digital trends.
This week we are sharing tips about Twitch.
