Anti-Bullying and Kindness Week
Kindness and achievements prevailed this week around the School campus, in lessons and corridors. There were many special moments, several stand out: parents and pupils in the Junior School's Kindness Workshops, the incredible Art talks and exhibition by Year 13 and some small acts of kindness by so many students which were instrumental in spreading a wonderful community spirit.
As we approach the end of Kindness and Anti-Bullying week, we will continue the good work in creating a zero tolerance approach to bullying. Senior School students have had special assemblies on the impact of online bullying, the difference between banter and bullying and how to be an upstander and not a bystander. All pupils should approach a teacher they trust - their tutor, Head of Year, Head of Key Stage or their favourite teacher - if they are worried about anything. We also encourage parents to please come and see the relevant pastoral leader if they have any concerns about bullying. All concerns will be treated sensitively and seriously.
Year 13 Mock Examinations
We wish Year 13 the best of luck as they begin their mock examinations next week. It is important to balance workload and wellbeing during this stressful period. Good sleep and eating habits and exercise are key. Again, we encourage students to please seek support as needed from the Sixth Form Leadership Team.
School Uniform
The Uniform Shop has full stock of the BISC winter uniform, including blazers and jumpers. Students must not wear any other jumper or hoodie to School. We are grateful for your support in securing high standards across the School.
End of Term
A reminder that this term ends on Thursday 21st December. The School finishes at 12:00 on this day.
Year 13 Visual Art Talks and Exhibition

Readers of the Week
This week’s Readers of the Week have been chosen because of their excellent attitude to reading this academic year. Some students get quite caught up in the idea of gaining reading points and forget to think about what type of book they would really find interesting. These readers have selected books that they want to read, and are getting great results whilst enjoying their reading time.
In Year 7, Yassein H has been making a huge effort in reading this term. He takes quizzes in his own time instead of waiting for a reading lesson to come around and ensures he gets a new book as soon as he finishes the last.
In Year 8, Zainab-Fatima has read several books recently, including one that was only added to the library collection a few days ago.
In Year 9, Louis helped to add new books onto our library system last week, whilst selecting books to read from the collection. By the beginning of this week, he was ready to take the quizzes!
This week, the following students scored 100% on reading quizzes:
Year 7: Kinda, Rihanna, Amira, Lamar, Malak G, Khalifa H, Tamara, Ali H, Yassein, Maryam K, Ahmed M, Ali M, Karma and Ghalia.
Year 8: Omar A, Zaid, Yassin, Hossam, Zainab-Fatima, Ahmed G, Jessica, Neva.
Year 9: Seif, Nelly.
Careers and Higher Education
The careers team was delighted this week to support our Year 12 students open their personal accounts on Unifrog, the very highly regarded university and careers portal website. Used by over 3500 schools around the world, our students now have the best platform to find success in reaching their future goals and also to maximise their potential.
This platform has a huge range of features to support students develop understanding of their interests, motivations, and talents. It provides insight into careers and courses of study via video interviews, research for degree choices and then the complete and comprehensive management of the actual university application process in Year 13.
Additionally, there are various guides offering information about many aspects of higher education and career pathways - this guide about Understanding the Ivy League is an example of the concise and well produced Unifrog publications.
As we move forward, both Year 10 and Year 11 students will also shortly be opening their own accounts and we also look forward to seeing their excitement when engaging with their long term plans.
Celebrating our House Captains
It is with great pride that we unveil the names of our newly appointed House Captains. After a rigorous selection process, brimming with exceptional candidates, these remarkable individuals have emerged victoriously.
To all the applicants who exhibited remarkable skills, talents, and tenacity throughout this arduous selection process, we applaud your remarkable effort and commend your invaluable contributions. Let us unite in celebrating this remarkable cohort of House Captains, forging a path towards greatness as they assume their well-deserved leadership roles. Together, we shall cultivate a nurturing and inspiring environment that empowers every student to soar to new heights of success.

Parents and guardians were invited to join their children for a range of art workshops throughout the week. A wonderful time was had by all.
Kindness Week Song
For Kindness Week, Year 6 have been working on a song they have written themselves. In their classes, they brainstormed ideas which were then used for the lyrics. Leyla worked with Mr Shaun to compose the melody and accompaniment for the song which was performed today in assembly. Leyla said "I really enjoyed composing the song and am very happy with how the main tune and the verse turned out".
You can watch a video of Year 6 performing the song in assembly today below:
KS1 Assembly - Thursday 9th November
During the KS1 assembly last week, the pupils received ‘Star of the Week’ and ‘Mathematician of the Week’ certificates for their hard work. This was followed by some singing practice for the KS1 Production, which was led by Ms Veronica - our new Year 1 Music Teacher. More photos here.

Year 1 Storytime
Class 1J has been enjoying the story ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson. They have linked the invertebrates depicted in the illustrations to their topic work, where they have been learning the characteristics of invertebrates for grouping animals. In this English lesson, the children chose an invertebrate from the illustrations and made a missing poster for them. The pupils have also worked on using adjectives to describe a noun and applied this to their sentences for their missing posters. More photos here.
Year 3 Arabic Class
During the Year 3 Arabic lesson, pupils were working on recognising and sorting verbs, nouns and prepositions. More photos here.
Junior School Poetry
Pupils across the Junior School wrote wonderful poems for the COBIS Poetry Competition. The theme of the competition was ‘A Future to be Proud of’ and our learners did not disappoint.

Foundation Stage One
Foundation Stage One had an exciting week to mark the end of our “Enormous Turnip” topic! The story provided a catalyst for a lot of fun as well as discussion about food and in particular the importance of vegetables. The culmination of this theme was a Tug of War between the three FS1 classes, (FS1C were the winners!) and you will see evidence of this in the video clip below.
Pupils across all the FS1 classes have shown an increased interest in different modes of transport. Our next topic will therefore be “Transportation” and will encompass themes such as pirate ships, aeroplanes and racing cars. Each class may differ slightly as we will follow the children's interests.
Foundation Stage Two
This week in Foundation Stage Two, we have continued learning about our local community and the places we like to visit. We have set up our role-play areas to develop language and social skills that draw upon the children's experiences and understanding. We also had so much fun in the ice cream shop.
As the weather cools, pupils will be taking part in the Daily Mile. This becomes increasingly competitive as children start to record their timings.
Keeping our students safe online is a priority at BISC. We are happy to share advice from the Safeguarding Training Centre, to enable parents to understand the pros and cons of various social media, games and digital trends.
This week we are sharing tips about TikTok.
