Year 13 Graduation Ceremony 2023
This was a spectacular event which our students and parents thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. I would like to thank Chairman Eng. Ahmed Ezz and the Board of Governors for leading on this event alongside a very committed organising committee. Official pictures of this event will be released in a special Bulletin which no doubt will capture the scale and success of this special day.
End of Year Assessments
The End of Year Assessments have nearly all been completed in both the Senior and Junior Schools. I would like to thank all the staff and students for making sure these assessments ran smoothly and were worthwhile. While students will be keen to know their results and grades, it is vital that we continue to reinforce the message that these assessments are a tool for teachers and students to be aware of areas for improvement as we prepare for Year 13; all roads lead to the IB Diploma and it is normal to have a few bumps along the way.
Congratulations to all the students for completing the end of year exams! It has been a very busy week and students conducted themselves extremely well. Friday 16th June also marks the final IGCSE exam. These exams have been taking place since the beginning of May so the Year 11 students will be very relieved they have come to an end. We now wish the students the best of luck when the results are released in August.
Next week we have a range of activities for the students to celebrate the end of the academic year.

Year 12 Business Studies Trip
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Chairman and Ezz Steel, for hosting our Business Studies students on an excellent educational field trip this week. The students were fascinated by the manufacturing process and the inner workings of the steel plant, and we were grateful for the opportunity to engage with its staff members to learn about the facilities. We hope that this is just the beginning of a long-lasting partnership between our school and Ezz Steel, as we continue to inspire future generations of students to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering.
It was very clear from the outset that international safety standards were embedded into daily practice at the plant. This was evidenced by 55 pupils and support staff being able to observe a heavy industry in action while feeling safe and secure at all times. The students learned about the different types of steel produced and their uses in the wider economy, as well as the key principles of metallurgy and manufacturing.
We enjoyed a guided tour of the plant where they were able to see first-hand the vast scale of the facility. Throughout the trip, the students asked questions and engaged with the workers who were more than happy to share their knowledge and expertise. The tour proved to be a great learning experience for the students and teachers, providing an opportunity to observe the real-world application of the concepts that they had studied in the classroom.

CISSA U12 Football
U12 football tournaments were hosted this week by BSE (girls) and AIS (boys). The girls played at SODIC West and took part in a round-robin tournament with four other schools. The BISC girls were victorious in this event, never losing a game. Here they are pictured below:
The U12 boys were less successful with their tournament, but learnt a lot from the experience. Below are pictures from their matches. More photos.
Careers and Higher Education Department
Dr. Goldfinch will lead a session about the UCAS personal statement (UK) on Wednesday 14th June starting at 09:15. Dr Goldfinch has run a few sessions at BISC before to our Sixth Form students and these are always extremely beneficial when applying for the UK universities.
Year 12 Careers Meetings
The Careers team has met with all the Year 12 students and the university application targets are set for them. Students are advised to research university courses, attend work experience, and charitable projects and complete the university essays during the summer holidays.
Splash Day for Years 1, 2 and 3
Splash Day was a fun-filled water-play event for Key Stage 1 and Year 3 students. The day consisted of various water activities and games, including foam soccer, climbing towers, and water gun fights. The children had lots of opportunities to cool off and have fun in the sun with their classmates, while developing their motor skills and team-building abilities. The teachers ensured that safety precautions were taken throughout the day. The children look forward to Splash Day with great enthusiasm, and it is a highlight of the summer term for many of them. A huge thank you to Miss Jenny Minnows for organising this outstanding event.
Pyjama Day
Today, the Junior School held a Pyjama Day. It was great to see all the children wearing their favourite PJs; many of them also bought a small soft toy.
This initiative was suggested by the KS2 Pupil Council and the school’s 'Litter-mittee' who challenged the pupils to a 'Zero Litter Count' for two weeks, ensuring that the field was completely litter-free after break and lunch times. Well done to the children and their fantastic efforts!
U10 CISSA Football
Last Friday, the U10 boys and girls competed in the annual CISSA football tournament. The girls’ event was held at Sodic West and organised by BSE. The boys travelled to AIS West campus. The girls played a round robin, playing the other three schools in the area and Schutz, who came down from Alexandria. Draws against El Alsson and AIS West and easy wins against BSE and Schutz saw us contending for the title. However, AIS had other ideas - they were on the same points score as us - but went on to win by scoring more goals in their wins against the other schools. Such a close margin. The girls were happy to come second as they worked so hard all morning. Haya was an excellent captain scoring a plethora of goals (a hat trick in one game) and Talyia showed daring and ability in goal; making many diving saves during the AIS match. All the girls played well and this is definitely a team to watch for next year.
The boys also came undone by AIS. The team battled hard to come second in their group and played BSE in the semi finals - beating them in a close match. The final against AIS was extremely close and tight, and we managed to take the lead, 1-0. This lead remained until AIS snuck through and poked in a late goal. A draw meant penalties and AIS got the better of us, winning 4-3. Credit goes to Mourad in goal for his calm manner throughout the tournament. Everyone else battled and put their heart and soul into every match in the 38 degree heat. Another great team to watch for the future. More photos here.

Miss Jo had her class moving beautifully in a Dance class this week, working together on a choreographed sequence.

Meanwhile, Hassan and Omar in Year 5 won gold medals in the National Judo Championship. Omar won the Gold medal in the 50kg category Hassan won the gold medal in the 60kg category. Well done!
Rubik’s Cube Competition
Can you solve one side of a Rubik’s Cube? Can you solve the whole cube? All Junior School students are welcome to enter the competition on Wednesday 21st June at 11:50 in the Junior School Quad.
No Swimming Next Week
Swimming has now finished in PE lessons and your child will just need to wear their PE kit for their final PE lessons in the final week. We will partake in fun games / team challenges.
End of Term Party
On the last day of term, all the children in Junior School will be taking part in a class party in their classrooms. Each child will be asked to bring in a party food dish to share with their classmates. The parties will take place during the afternoon, so your child will still need a morning snack and water bottle.
After a busy day rehearsing in the theatre, Foundation Stage 1 children cooled down with some ice-cream.
Next Wednesday 21st June is the FS1 Production, and Thursday 22nd June is the FS2 Graduation Ceremony.

Keeping our students safe online is a priority at BISC. We are happy to share advice from the NOS (National Online Safety), to enable parents to understand the pros and cons of various social media, games and digital trends.
This week's advice is about how to use iPads safely.
If parents would like copies of any of the photos you have seen in the Bulletin, please email s706@bisc.edu.eg.
