The Junior School received a large delivery of new furniture over the holiday period which has now been installed (see pictures below). This is part of a major refurbishment program which began at the end of the last academic year. In the coming Summer break, there will be additional refurbishment work taking place, mainly in the Senior School.
Our IB and GCSE cohorts began their examinations this week. It has been a very smooth start and our students appear as calm, confident and composed as one would expect from a BISC student. I wish them every success and know that they will achieve great things.
The IB exams started last Friday and the (I)GCSE exams began today. We wish all the students the best of luck throughout the exam season.
Students in KS3 and Year 10 have received their end of year exam timetables, revision ASAs have started and further revision material has been posted on Google Classrooms. If students have any questions about the exams, please contact subject teachers in the first instance.
Year 7 reports have been issued today as tomorrow is a public holiday.

Well done to Fareeha in Year 13 and Elyssa in Year 12 for winning COBIS Student Achievement Awards.
COBIS received nominations from 131 schools worldwide, and the achievements of our students for their charitable work (Elyssa) and their contribution to the wider life of the school (Fareeha) deserve to be widely recognised.
Year 7 Wellbeing
Students in Tutor group 7JS have been discussing their definition of wellbeing in tutor time. They agreed that taking part in activities outside of school gives your brain something to focus on, and that incorporating a physical activity into our routines can be a coping strategy to manage stress and anxiety.
Here are some examples from the class on how they plan to keep moving and feel better before the end of year exams:
- Emma does gymnastics and has competed internationally. She does not let her fear of falling keep her from flying!
- Rasheed enjoys duck hunting with his dad in his spare time.
- Tatiana has been playing violin since she was only five years old and has participated in various concerts. This just proves that happiness, like a musical instrument, is a thing to be practised!
- Hana is Year 7’s golden girl of football, enjoying the technical challenges and the teamwork.
- Lara just entered her second fencing tournament but has already received a special award. In a short period of time, Lara has mastered how to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!

Welcome back to Term 3 at BISC. We were all delighted to find that the Junior School classrooms had the new furniture delivered over the holidays. They really make the classes bright and inviting as you can see below.
STEM Week Overview
The children had a fabulous time celebrating STEM week - it was great to see children working on their entrepreneurial skills for Maths whilst creating and pitching their products. Invited guests had our children enthralled with the Science demonstrations and experiments that took place around the theme of Connections.
A thoroughly enjoyable week was had by all and special thanks to Mr Banton-Smith, Ms Jenny Minnow and Ms Sinead Kelly for their organisation of the week.
Children from across the Junior School enjoyed showcasing their costumes in a parade today, with a range of inventive costumes and budding scientists in their lab coats. See photos of every class on this link.

Key Stage 2 - Message from Ms Kelly
We had a fantastic day with Nutty Scientists for Science, we enjoyed some amazing workshops, shows and a wonderful carousel of experiments. We loved learning from their scientists!
The experiments spread out across the Clock tower quad, as students got hands-on with the equipment.
During the week, there was a fun Maths Treasure Hunt to complete - here you can see Year 5 attempting it:
Meanwhile, Year 6 students engineered a Rude Goldberg machine with Ms Fuschillo.
And Year 6 also tried their hands at making perfect paper aeroplanes!
Year 6 Transition
Students in Year 6 visited English classrooms in the Senior School this week, as part of their managed transition out of the Junior School next year.
Student Achievements
Ahmed in Year 6 visited MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) during the break, where he arranged meetings with a number of professors and engineers who taught him about their work and a career in STEM. He created and wrote a diary of his wonderful experiences which you can read below.
Swimming at BISC
Please note that swimming is a compulsory PE subject at BISC. As such, we would like as many people as possible to fulfil the requirements of two full blocks of swimming a year. This is primarily for their health and fitness, as it will improve their cardio-vascular stamina and tone and strengthen their muscles.
Also, swimming is a life skill that is very important for all students to acquire and improve. This will make sure everyone is proficient, and therefore safe, when in any situations that involve water. These could be holidays and trips that you take where your children are swimming in the sea or a swimming pool, or indeed on a boat.
If your child has a cold, it’s okay to swim unless they have a fever, aches, a cough or if it has gone to their chest. Our pool is heated to 28 degrees and is warm when they are inside. At the moment, the air temperature is a little cold so please send a large towel or robe that can wrap around them going to and from the changing rooms.
The classes that swam this week were fantastic in the pool. So, well done to Year 1, Classes 2M and 2C, Year 3, Year 4 and the Year 5 girls. Keep it up! It is such good exercise!
Remember the PE department and coaches can adapt the program if your child is feeling under the weather - just drop an email to the PE teacher to highlight this.
Music Performances - Years 2 and 3
Music performances for Year 2 and Year 3 will take place next week. Please refer to the previous letter for details. Upon arrival, please ensure that you go to the Junior School Music Room on the first floor.

Creative Arts Week
During the week commencing 14th May, the Junior School will be celebrating Creative Arts Week, promoting creativity and learning through a hands-on Art project.
The project will be divided into two parts. Firstly, each class from KS1 and KS2 will take and upload a range of photos of Cairo onto their Google Classroom. Secondly, the children will use their photos as the basis for their own original works of art. They will have the option to paint over their photos, or create a collage using different media (paint, oil pastels, add collage) in a different range of styles.
In Class This Week
FS2 also had a wonderful Science show which Mohanad, as he showed the children a vacuum, magnets, chemical reactions and more. This was followed up by a workshop with each class and the children were able to take their experiments home to show their families.
FS2F also had their first swimming lesson this week. The children showed their confidence and excitement during the lesson.
FS2S enjoyed making kaleidoscope of colours in class this week.
FS2G also had fun exploring static electricity, chemical reactions and balloon racing.

Keeping our students safe online is a priority at BISC. We are happy to share advice from the NOS (National Online Safety), to enable parents to understand the pros and cons of various social media, games and digital trends.
This week's advice is about phone scams.
If parents would like copies of any of the photos you have seen in the Bulletin, please email s706@bisc.edu.eg.
