Year 13 Event in the Four Seasons Hotel
Eng. Ahmed Ezz, BISS Chairman, hosted an event where Minister Rania El-Mashat addressed our IB Year 13 cohort. You will find more details of this event below. The event was a great success and Minister El-Mashat impressed everybody with her knowledge, her achievements, her plans for the future, and her advice for our students.
Here is a link to the Ministerial website which outlines current and future projects led by Minister El-Mashat and her team. This website is available in both Arabic and English. All of these projects are linked to the United Nations Sustainable Goals which are taught and emphasised within the school; it is wonderful for our students to see so many real life examples which demonstrate the intent of Egypt in supporting these worldwide efforts.

A Speech by HE Dr. Rania El Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, to BISC Students
As part of the Distinguished Lectures Series that The British International School, Cairo is organising during this academic year, the School was honoured to welcome HE Dr. Rania El Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, on the 14th of January 2023. Minister El Mashat has met with the students of Year 13 and delivered a talk entitled “Evolving Trends in International Cooperation”.
In her speech, Minister El Mashat emphasized the role of the Ministry of International Cooperation (MOIC) in boosting Egyptian multi-lateral, regional and bilateral cooperation, with the aim of financing Egypt’s developmental trajectory. She discussed the ongoing trends in developmental finance, the Ministry’s various economic activities during the last three years, and the alignment and synergy of these activities with the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She also pointed out that MOIC currently oversees an active partnerships portfolio whose value exceeds US$25 Billion.
According to Dr. El Mashat, Egypt’s current strategy on financing development rests on three main principles: being inclusive, people-centered, and ensuring a green-sustainable economic growth. She also emphasized that a growing number of entrepreneurs are now involved in the developmental projects overseen by the Ministry and that the share of the private sector in such projects has become substantial.
After the talk, Year 13 students engaged enthusiastically in a discussion with HE Minister Rania El Mashat.

Parent Workshop on the Accelerated Reader Programme
We would like to cordially invite Year 7 and Year 8 parents to a 30 minute parent workshop on Monday 23rd January at 15:00, which will be held in the Library. The workshop will explain how we use the Accelerated Reader programme in the Senior School and we will also share how you can support your child’s reading at home. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please can you email louise.ward@bisc.edu.eg to RSVP?
Thank you for your support and encouragement as always.

Message from the Head of Foundation Stage
FS1 spent this week learning about healthy lifestyles. They made fruit kebabs and vegetable soup. Next week, they will continue the theme, learning about the importance of oral hygiene and exercise.
The children will begin to practise for the "Daily Mile" next week; we will explain what this entails and how we got involved in this project on Thursday 2nd February when we will invite the FS1 parents into school. We will also ask anyone who wishes to join us - so please bring your trainers! Miss Ryah will send detailed information about this event under separate cover. The weather this week has been perfect and just right for the resumption of the Tennis classes.
FS2 has begun to make decorations for the Chinese New Year, which begins on 22nd January. Incidentally, this is the year of the Water Rabbit, and I am looking forward to finding out more about this creature! The children loved learning about the story of the animals from the Zodiac, looking at the Chinese numbers and matching the Chinese characters with the English ones. I will be dropping into FS2 classes to see what they can tell me; I am sure we will have some great photo opportunities next week.
Finally, a reminder - next week is a four day week, as the 26th January is a public holiday.
